The authorities of the City of Krakow have made the decision to change the format of this year's New Year's Eve on the Main Market Square. There will be no stage or performances by invited stars. But there will still be a fireworks display for the inhabitants of the City of Krakow.
"This year, we decided to cut down on the expenses and change the format of the New Year's Eve party. There will be no stage and concert, but there will be a traditional meeting at midnight to which I would like to invite everyone," said the Mayor of the City of Krakow, Jacek Majchrowski, at the briefing on Friday, the 18th of November. "It is above all a rational decision made for financial reasons. I believe that everybody will understand that, and that Krakow's Main Market Square will see great numbers of people coming to see the outstanding show and wish each other well," said Magdalena Sroka, Deputy Mayor of the City of Krakow for Culture and City Promotion.
At 11:45 pm on New Year's Eve, the crowds gathered in the Main Market Square (from the side of the Adam Mickiewicz Monument) will be greeted with a several-minute long musical set (dance music). Traditionally, the firework display then begins at midnight. A fireworks show consisting of spectacular bombs, comets, launchers and mingling crowns will arouse many emotions among those gathered, and will involve the use of 200 kg of firework material. Everything will be complemented by a special musical background, orchestrated with the visual part. Additionally, the facade of the Cloth Hall will be used as a screen for projections with New Year's wishes for the inhabitants of Krakow.
Security will be ensured by professional services from the most reputed security agency, Fosa, who will be working in conjunction with Krakow's municipal services. The cost of this year's New Year's Eve will be PLN 150,000 - the cost of last year's event was PLN 1,900,000.
