New Year’s Eve 2008

The hottest New Year’s Eve party this year is being prepared in Krakow! The star of the evening will be one of the top artist in the world – Leona Lewis. The megasexy British vocalist, winner of the third edition of the popular TV show "The X Factor” can set any crowd on fire. It is enough to listen to her songs or watch her music videos to feel the power of expression of this unusually beautiful and gifted woman. The author of the hit "Bleeding Love”, the best-selling British album of 2007 will set the tone for the biggest party in Poland. The great concert in the setting of the Main Square in Krakow will take place with great vocalists, because apart from Leona Lewis there will also be performances by Kate Ryan, Kasia Kowalska, Natalia Kukulska and Tatiana Okupnik as well as the DJ show My Space. This year’s New Year’s Eve will be dominated by women – especially on the stage...

The music performed by the beautiful artists will be made complete by the multimedia show created by men: the DJ duo TemporarySpaceDesign will create special visualisations which will light the biggest multimedia screen ever used in Poland with an area of over 400 sq. m with lighting direction by Grzegorz Barszczewski who will be in charge of an army of more than 500 lighting devices with a joint output in excess of 400 kW.

This year the stage will be situated on the eastern side of the Main Square between the Cloth Hall and the Church of St. Adelbert. The whole will be supported by 2 LED screens for the audience, one with an area of 48 sq. m next to the Town Hall Tower and the other with an area of 24 sq. m situated behind the statue of Adam Mickiewicz. Like every year, there will also be a fireworks display with unusual shapes and amazing colours. The audience will be able to witness special pyrotechical effects, especially brought in and performed for the occasion. The spectacular pyrotechnical show will be one of the biggest we have ever witnessed in Krakow and will make an unforgettable impression on those gathered.
The Krakow New Year’s Eve has for many years been remembered as great fun to excellent music in a magic setting. The city traditionally puts a lot of emphasis on the quality of the event. This year should not be any different with the Main Square concert featuring the motto of "Krakow – City of Women”. The appearance of such a star as Leona Lewis is a guarantee of an excellent concert. Her debut single "A Moment Like This” released in December 2006, beat the world record with 50,000 Internet downloads in half an hour! The next "Bleeding Love” became the best-selling single of 2007, while Leona’s debut album "Spirit” released at the beginning of November 2007 became best selling album in Britain and Ireland and making it to the top of the Billboard 200 list.

In Poland and throughout Europe the album was released at the beginning of this year and also achieved excellent sales, confirming the amazing talent of the vocalist who is held in high esteem not only by her fans but also by people in the music industry. It was Leona Lewis who for the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics performed Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” with Jimmy Page.
The other vocalists will also perform their biggest past and current hits. Kate Ryan will certainly remind us of her hits from the album "Free” – "Voyage, Voyage” and "Elle, Elle l’a” to which the whole of Europe partied last summer. Natalia Kukulska will perform songs from her new album "Sexi Flexi”, Tatiana Okupnik from the album "On My Own” and Kasia Kowalska from the album "Antepenultimate” which was recently awarded a Golden Disk in Poland.

The New Year party will be accompanied by many other attractions. The Little Square will feature a special tent with lots of exciting attractions, which will welcome Krakow’s residents and tourists from the 28th till the 31st of December from 11 o’clock until the last guest leaves, and feature meetings with famous people, DJ concerts, carols, dance workshops and New Year’s Eve party advice by famous stylists, hairdressers and make-up artists.

Another attraction will be the unique DJ show. The winners of a DJ competition conducted by the Internet service MySpace will show off their skills during the concert. MySpace is a place of gathering for the most interesting artists, their fans, their friends and friends of their friends – it is the only social network of its kind gathering people around the broad concept of entertainment
Krakow welcomes everyone to the hottest party of the year with the motto “Krakow – A City of Women”!
