WOW!night 2010
World stars: Kelis and R.I.O., excellent Polish DJ’s: Robert M and DJ Namteh, dance shows, a spectacular firework show and a confetti show – all of these could be seen during the last night of the year on the Krakow Market Square. The police estimate that the concerts attracted several thousand persons and during the whole evening around 100,000 persons participated in attractions prepared for WOW!night on the Krakow Market Square.
WOW!night 2010 was started by DJ Namteh – the DJ Champion of Poland. When he was leaving the stage before 8.00 p.m., he did not know yet that he would experience an unusual honour that evening. DJ Nikki Beatnik, who was to accompany Kelis on stage during the concert, became ill shortly before the beginning of the event and Kelis chose DJ Namteh to replace Nikki.
After the finale of the contest for the club hit of the year, the author of the winning song Super Bomb—Robert M, an internationally popular DJ and producer from Krakow, who was eagerly awaited by a crowd of fans on the Market Square - appeared on stage around 10.00 p.m. After a nearly one hour of Robert M's performance and the shooting of a megaphoto (a common photograph of all participants of the party during WOW! night), the concert of the main star of the evening – Kelis began. Dressed in a snow white fur trimmed with crystals (she said that she had prepared it on her own specially for the Krakow concert), the artist captivated the audience and performed songs from her new record Flesh Tone as well as a mix of her greatest hits.
“I hope that this night will begin a successful year which will be good in every respect both for you and for our city. I wish you all the best!" said Jacek Majchrowski, the Mayor of the City of Krakow, punctually at midnight. When he was finishing his speech, the sky over the Market Square was lit by fireworks. This was followed by a confetti rain falling on the entire audience present on the Market Square, and then R.I.O. entered the stage.
WOW!night 2010 was organised in a very spectacular fashion. The concert stage together with gigantic diode screens on its both sides, with the total area of over 150 square metres, was situated along the Sukiennice wall. A stage platform was stuck out by approx. 15 meters towards the audience, on which dancers performed throughout the event in a choreography specially designed for that evening. In addition, special gates were installed as unique entrances to the club stage near three entrances to the Market Square from Św. Anny, Szewska and Sławkowska streets. The enormous number of around 250 conventional and intelligent lights with a power of 350,000 W spread out on three sides of the Square and 12 high-power colour lasers created a spectacular show complemented by visualizations displayed on diode screens, which were prepared specially for that night and mixed live. The sound equipment suitable for this large-scale event was provided by the L-Acoustics V-DOSC sound system with a power of 140,000 W. The safety of the audience was ensured by nearly 200 professional security guards from the most renowned Polish security agency "Fosa", who co-operated with police and city guard forces. As usual, medical aid points and a lost persons’ point were functioning in several places of the Square, and there were medical services in ambulances of the Krakow Ambulance Service and fire-extinguishing vehicles of the Fire Brigade available on duty at streets adjacent to the Square.
