Natalia Kukulska
Natalia is one of the most famous and valued Polish singers, with a rich history of artistic achievements. She started her career while still a child, and for more than ten years has continued her mature artistic activity, recording new songs and giving concerts all over Poland and abroad. The artist’s discography includes six solo CDs: Sexi Flexi, 2007 - EMI Music Polska; Natalia Kukulska, 2003 – Universal Music Polska; Tobie, 2001 – Universal Music Polska; Autoportret, 1999 – Universal Music Polska; Puls, 1997 – Universal Music Polska and Światło, 1996 – Universal Music Polska. Most of them are now gold, platinum or multiple platinum discs, with the total number sold exceeding 500,000 copies. In her childhood, Natalia recorded three discs, also for Polskie Nagrania: Natalia in 1986, Bajki Natalki in 1987 and Najpiękniejsze kolędy polskie in 1991, which altogether sold 1.5 million plus, making her the youngest singer to go platinum in the history of the Polish music business. Natalia has also recorded many songs and singles promoting special albums and projects, including the Pocztówka do świętego Mikołaja (two editions - 2006 and 2005), Konwój Muszkieterów 2006 (live), Ona i On 2006, Po tamtej stronie 2005, Słońce lato muzyka 2002, Kolędy na żywo 2001 (live) Tyle słońca 2000 (live), www.mega_Top99.pl (with the special single Ale we mnie wszystko twoje).
She has also sung on movie soundtracks including Zakochani in 1999, Magiczny miecz in 1998, and Herkules in 1997. She has sung in duets with foreign and Polish stars, including the Harlem Gospel Choir, Lemar, Jose Carreras, Eric Mariental, R'n'G, Paweł Rosak, Zbigniew Zamachowski, Piasek, Mietek Szcześniak, Tede and Bartek Królik. Among her repertoire is a unique duet with her late mother, Anna Jantar, Tyle słońca w całymi mieście. Natalia has given more than 600 concerts and has worked with the best Polish musicians, including Wojtek Olszak, Grzegorz Jabłoński, Marek Piotrowski, Wojtek Pilichowski, Piotr Żaczkek, Robert Kubiszyn, Bartek Królik, Michał Grott, Michał Dąbrówka, Michał Grymuza, Ryszard Sygitowicz, Bartek Jakubiec and Marcin Nowakowski. Her back-up band has included Natalia and Nora Niemen, Renata Dąbkowska, Anna Świątczak, Margita Ślizowska, Hanna Stach, Ania Szarmach, Łukasz Zagrobelny, Paweł Hartlieb, Emilia Alma and Nic Sinclair.
Natalia’s first large promotional campaign promoting the PULS album took place in 1997 and was a huge commercial success, packing the concert halls out. However, her biggest tour was with the Piknik Era z Natalią, consisting of 10 huge open air concerts which attracted 600,000 people. One of the most important of Natalia’s performances was her participation – as the first artist from Poland – in the Great Christmas Gala at the Vatican, Natale in Vaticano where she performed next to such stars as Lauryn Hill, Ronan Keating, Randy Crawford and Alesandro Safina. The concert was transmitted by CANALE 5 satellite TV.
Her latest tour was SEXI FLEXI LIVE when, in April 2008, Natalia and her band toured the best clubs in Poland. Natalia has also been active on the musical theatre stage, with the highlight of her theatrical career being the part of Kim in the Polish version of MISS SAIGON at the ROMA Theatre in Warsaw. In the spring of 2004, the artist performed in a number of events marking the end of its run at the theatre. Natalia is always willing to get involved in projects aimed at providing aid. She has taken part in a number of charity concerts and campaigns to provide aid to various victims. In 2006, she participated in the Musketeer Convoy to help children in children’s homes all over Poland, and recently, as a UNICEF AMBASSADOR, she the “Schools for Africa”campaign. She has visited Angola, a country with one of the highest mortality rates in the world. Presently, Natalia is promoting a special edition of the SEXI FEXI album. While producing this CD, she cooperated with the Plan B production team, which consists of Bartek Królik and Marek Piotrowski (former ‘Sistars’ members). Several songs have been created in cooperation with Michał Dąbrówka. Natalia is the author and co-author of music and lyrics on this CD. This hit album has gained very favourable opinions from the critics.
The first, already known single “Sexi Flexi” is a great showcase of the CD which bears the same title and, at the same time, is one of the most party-like songs on the record. Two others include Pół na pół, a duet with Bartek Królik and Fantasies with has a dynamic video. The album’s re-release contains the premiere song Raz na jakiś czas, two songs in Polish language versions and remixes by top Polish DJs. A special, additional DVD includes TV clips, location reports and an hour-long film revealing the story behind the recording and promotion of “Sexi Flexi”.
